Sail Rock Thailand – Best Dive Site Near Koh Tao & Koh Phangan

Sail Rock is widely considered one of the best dive sites in the Gulf of Thailand. Located between Koh Tao and Koh Phangan, this dramatic underwater pinnacle rises from deep water to just below the surface, attracting huge schools of fish and pelagic species.

The Famous Sail Rock Chimney

The chimney is a vertical swim-through inside the rock, starting at around 18 metres and exiting at approximately 5 metres. It is one of the most unique dive features in Thailand and a highlight for many divers.

This feature allows for a controlled ascent while exploring inside the rock, often surrounded by schools of fish.

Marine Life at Sail Rock

Sail Rock is known for its huge schools of trevally, barracuda and fusiliers, as well as larger pelagic species passing through the area.

Divers may also encounter whale sharks, making this one of the best locations in the region for big marine life encounters.

Who Is This Dive Suitable For?

Sail Rock is best suited for experienced divers due to its depth and potential currents. Advanced Open Water certification is recommended, although some dive centres allow less experienced divers depending on conditions.
